I would like to learn CPR, does the fire department offer a CPR class?

The Fire Department does not offer a CPR class. However, interested persons may contact the American Red Cross at         (724)-834-6510 or Mutual Aid EMS at (724)-837-6134 to schedule a CPR or First-Aid class.

Does the Fire Department fill swimming pools?

No, the Fire Department does NOT fill swimming pools as per Hempfield Township Ordinance.

I had a medical emergency and called for an ambulance. Why did a fire truck also respond?

Occasionally, paramedics will request assistance from the fire department.  This assistance could come in the form of helping paramedics lift a patient, gaining access to a residence, helping to extricate a patient located in a difficult to reach location, or providing the paramedics with an an additional AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

Does the Fire Department rescue cats or other animals from trees?

No, the Fire Department does not rescue cats from trees. This would impede the response of firefighters to a more serious call for help such as a vehicle accident or a house fire. You should contact the local humane society if you ever find yourself in this type of situation.

May I schedule to have a tour of the fire station?

Absolutely. We would be happy to give you as an individual, or your group a tour of our fire station as well as teach you about our fire trucks and increase your knowledge of fire safety. To schedule a tour, please call the fire station at (724)-836-2145 or contact the Fire Prevention Officer by clicking here.

How may I apply for membership with the Carbon Fire Department?

Any individual interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the Carbon Fire Department may call the fire station at (724)-836-2145, click here, or just stop by for more information.

I would like to burn brush, leaves, and other debris.  Is this permitted?

Hempfield Township Ordinance states that residents may burn twigs and other yard waste on Saturdays between the hours of 8AM and 2PM and must be at least 50 feet from any structure and 30 feet from any property line.

If there is a flood in my home or business, may I call the Fire Department for assistance?

Yes, but do not call the Fire Department directly. Call 911 and report your situation to the call taker. The Fire Department has a special vehicle known as a salvage unit that is specifically designed for pumping water out of basements and other flooded areas of a home or building.

Will the Fire Department refill my fire extinguisher(s)?

No, the Fire Department does NOT refill fire extinguishers. If you are looking to refill a fire extinguisher, please contact ABC Fire Equipment at (724)-834-3665.

I am looking to rent tables and/or chairs for my next event.  Will the Fire Department rent these to me from their banquet facility?

No, the Fire Department will not rent tables and chairs. They are needed for the numerous fundraisers and rentals that take place in the banquet hall.

My community/fire department is going to have a parade.  Can the fire department participate in our parade?

Yes, the Carbon Fire Department actively participates in different parades in and around the community.  If you are the event coordinator responsible for managing your event, please contact our Fire Prevention Officer by clicking here or send a letter to Carbon Volunteer Fire Department  ATTN: Fire Prevention Committee 421 Juniper Street Greensburg, PA 15601. We would be happy to participate in your next parade or upcoming event.
