The Fort Allen and Carbon Fire Departments, as well as Greensburg Rescue Company 3, were called out to a motor vehicle accident reported with injuries involving a car and a pickup truck at the intersection of Baltzer Meyer Pike and Bus Garage Road.
Mutual Aid EMS arrived on the scene to tend to the parties involved while Fort Allen Rescue 104 and Carbon Engine 23 detoured traffic around the intersection. Carbon then assisted Fort Allen with roadway clean-up and hazard mitigation.
While assisting the towing company and the State Police, Fort Allen and Carbon were called to assist paramedics with a patient who fell down a flight of stairs and suffered a head injury at a residence on Route 136 below the Hempfield Area High School. As the EMS crew was preparing to transport the patient to Westmoreland Hospital by ambulance, the patient's condition worsened. As a result, fire crews responded to the parking lot of a nearby church to setup a landing zone for an inbound medical helicopter.
Once Stat Medevac landed and the patient was loaded on-board, the helicopter departed for the flight to a Pittsburgh trauma center. After clearing from the landing zone, firefighters returned to the station by 2100 hours (9:00PM).
Units Responding from Carbon: Engine 23 and Squad 23
Other Units Responding: Rescue 104 (Fort Allen), Rescue 79-3 (City of Greensburg), Mutual Aid EMS, Pennsylvania State Police, State Medevac, and Webbs Towing Service
