Smoke in a Townhome
Tue. Jun 22nd 2010

The Carbon Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in the basement of a townhome at Oakridge Estates located off of South Greengate Road. The alarm was received around (   ) on Tuesday, June 22nd, and sent fire crews from Carbon, Fort Allen, Southwest Greensburg, and the City of Greensburg to the scene.

Assistant Chief Kearns arrived on scene to establish command of the incident prior to Chief 23's arrival, and reported smoke showing from the basement division of the structure. After crews entered the townhome, firefighters discovered that cigarettes were thrown in a trash can lighting the plastic garbage bag on fire, thus resulting in the large amount of smoke.

While awaiting the arrival of the vent truck from Greensburg, Carbon and Fort Allen crews ventilated a majority of the smoke from the structure. Foam 79-2 assisted with additional ventilation before all units were able to clear the scene and return in-service.

Units Responding from Carbon:  Engine 23

Units Providing Mutual Aid Assistance:  Engine 104 (Fort Allen), Engine 24 (Southwest Greensburg), and Engine 79-3, Engine 79-6, and Foam 79-2 (City of Greensburg)
